Resin Furniture Vs. Wood: Which is Better?

It’s not simply the style and color anymore; it’s the actual material that is causing much discussion in those store aisles. We’ve come a long way from aluminum folding chairs and uncomfortable wrought iron chair and table sets; now the two main choices are resin and wood. Which is better? You need to take your time and consider both of these options.

Resin (plastic) furniture has many pluses when it comes to both looks and upkeep. Resin furniture can be virtually any color or design, and upkeep is simply wiping it clean with water and perhaps a cleaning agent, as opposed to yearly staining to maintain a wood’s finish. Plastic can be virtually any shape, and will keep its shape even through the rainy seasons; it won’t warp the way wood furniture will if it’s not continually treated correctly.

Resin is also a particularly hardy choice for poolside use since it is more resistant than wood to the inevitable chlorine splash. Affordability is the last, and perhaps the most important to some consumers, advantage for the resin choice; when comparing to wooden furniture, there is no comparison that it is the less expensive of the two options.

Wood, on the other hand, simply has a more classic look. This really is the main difference between the two. And, the price reflects that, as does the grace in which wooden furniture ages. If kept properly treated, wooden furniture can become even more beautiful over time. Most surface marks on wooden furniture can simply be sanded down and re-stained; scratches on resin furniture cannot be so easily disguised.

The choice is clear…resin or wood is simply up to the consumer and his/her lifestyle. Both have advantages in different ways. Wood is more classic and will last a long time; resin, on the other hand, is more affordable, yet may appear more unattractive over time as scratches accumulate. More than ever before, there is no shortage of selection when it comes to your outdoor furniture. Whether in the building down the street, or over the internet, shop around and consider all of your options.

When picking your patio furniture, you may want to consider selecting a style that is consistent with the theme you have in mind or one that brings together colors from the deck and surrounding area. For example, if you have water near your property you may want to consider a water (nautical) decorating theme for your patio area. If you are decorating near a colorful garden area, you may want to focus on some of the colors in your garden and use that as your theme.

Once you have chosen your patio furniture, there are a number of accessories you may want to use to add to your theme. For example, decorative planters can add a lot of color and variety to your outdoor area. Depending on your theme, they can be found in a wide variety of materials, such as wood, copper, plastics, or other material. The planters can attach to the railings of a deck, or be free standing to sit to the side of your patio set.

Another accessory to consider is outdoor lighting; there are several options to choose from. In some cases, patios have been pre-wired for lights, which make the options endless. You can turn as many on at a time as you would like, or as few as you might like. Pre-wired decks are great to have, but they are generally very expensive.

Other options include landscape lighting which is easy and fairly inexpensive; they are great ideas to light a pathway and walking area. Patio torch lights are also popular, although they do have to be lit, and they are not an easy on and off switch.

Finally, depending on the theme you have chosen for your outdoor living space, you may want to include a fire pit in your design to provide some heat for those chilly evenings. A fire pit can provide a cozy feeling to your patio for those evening get togethers, but you will need to be careful to observe any local requirements as far as fire pits in your area. It is also important to choose the spot for your fire pit very carefully; you do not want an accident that may result in a fire.
